Restored and modernised, the house is in a quiet village and makes a comfortable base from which to explore the beautiful Vendee. The house, awarded 3 epis and 4 stars for comfort and charm, is situated in the quiet village of St Michel le Cloucq, 5 kms from Fontenay le Comte, 50 kms from La Rochelle and the beaches of the Atlantic. A rustic cottage fully restored to its original appearance, with exposed stone walls, wooden beams and wooden floor and tiled ground floor. It is furnished with antique French country style comfortable furniture. Ground floor : a large living room with a fireplace, a fully fitted modern kitchen, bathroom and separate WC. Utility room. One double bedroom with en suite shower room. (bed 1.60 mt wide) Upstairs : a double bedroom with one 1.40 mt wide bed, one mezzanine bedroom with two single beds, each 1.20 mt wide. Facilities included : Chimney, 1 satellite TV with English, german, dutch, Spanish … channels, videorecorder/player, DVD player, telephone, mini hi-fi, games, books and video cassettes, free wifi internet connection. Dishwasher, microwaves oven, full oven, washing machine, deep freezer. To enhance comfort for a restful and enjoyable stay, there are a 500 square meters private garden, a stone patio with garden furniture, a large outdoor roofed dining area with rustic furniture and a purpose built chimney-barbecue. 4 mountain bicycles for adults and 3 for children are available free of charge. Bathroom towels, house linen, and bed linen is provided, the beds are made prior to arrival. The cottage is situated in the quiet and hilly village of Saint Michel le Cloucq, above Fontenay le Comte, in a peaceful street. The village is on the edge of the forest with many places for walking and cycling. Only 50 km from the renowned sailing part and beautiful city of La Rochelle and the beaches of the Atlantic. The islands of Ré, Aix or Oléron are just off the coast. Few kilometers away there is Le Marais Poitevin, also known as the Green Venice, with its green canals for idyllic boating and fishing. The river Vendee ideal for fishing is less than 5 km away. Approx an hour away is Futuroscope, the science and technology theme park near Poitiers The Puy du Fou historic theme park with its day attractions, the summer evening concerts and displays is within 60 km. The Vendee apart from its beauty, is filled with history and fine architecture, notably the Abbaye de Maillezais and the Abbaye Royale in Nieul. Niort (30 kms), set on the River Sèvre, has a castle built by Henry Plantagenet and Richard the Lionheart and some lovely old houses around Rue St-Pierre, as well as an attractive art museum. The great sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast are about 50 kms away and you can easily get to the lovely islands of Oléron and Aix just off the coast. Roughly an hour away is Futuroscope, the science and technology park near Poitiers.
